Building Buildings – part 1

So, the other day I started a project. I split green buckthorn into roughly rectangular "beams" from which to try making buildings out of. Did it as a test to see if they would crack as they dried. First stage in trying to make miniature buildings out of carved wood and buckthorn is a weed not that useful for much of anything else.

Tools used:

• Vice to hold the wood while sawing & splitting
• Hacksaw to make a starting cut for better precision splits (could saw both ends due to grain & thorns)
• Hatchet to do the splitting
• Piece of maple used as a mallet for precision splits
